New Horizon GD1
€399.00
The entry level model, the GD1 is as good as Plug & Play. Take it out of the box, place the element mount, put the plate on it and play that music. Appearance, this model differs little from
the two that are positioned above them. For only 399 euros you get a 8.6 inch aluminum tone arm, complete with a neat Audio-Technica MM element. The stylishly styled plinth is of High Density Fi-ber to effectively suppress resonances and the plateau is 10mm acrylic and weighs a respectable 850 grams. The drive is carried out by an AC synchronous motor (24V/500rpm) that transmits the necessary energy to the plateau via an external string of natural rubber. To switch from 33 to 45rpm, you only have to redirect the string. The decoupling of the engine is achieved with tuned springs. The GD1 weighs 5.9 kilos and the turntable measures 450 x 365 x 102mm. For that money you get a dust cover as well.
Model GD1 is built on a single plinth. It is very important that the plinth transfer of vibrations and resonances to the engine, arm and lower is controlled or prevented. The application of compressed wood pulp and a mix of synthetic resins, known as MDF HD, guarantees optimal cushioning. This material is very smooth and heavy and sound superior to solid wood.
The beating heart of the turntable is a compact 24 Volt AC synchronous motor with extreme concourse. An AC motor is impervious to voltage variations in the mains; the concourse is guaranteed by the network frequency. The high torque and rotational speed of 500 rpm of this engine actively contributes to a correct and stable speed of the turntable.
With a turntable, the largest internal source of contact noises and resonances is the engine. The engine should be insulated as far as possible from all other parts of the turntable. The engine insulation in the New Horizon turntables is made possible by a unique mechanical suspension system. Through steel precision springs, calibrated on the floating weight of the engine and the drive, the transfer of vibrations to the plinth is efficiently blocked.
The drive through the pulley on the turntable is provided by a flat natural rubber string. A flat string ensures excellent energy transfer and good suppression of vibrations produced by the engine during the drive process.
Model GD1 comes with a straight 8.6″ arm with aluminium armtube. The arm is equipped with an AT MM element, fully adjusted and ready to use. The cross-pregnancy compensation is self-regulating. Model GD1 comes with a laser cut clear acrylic turntable of 10 mm high (850 grams). All models feature gold-plated RCA connectors and a separate earth connector.
All models come with a clear acrylic dust cover. The corners are bent by heat. The hood is seamless and not glued. The hood is not hinged.
