The GD2 is 300 euro more expensive than the GD1, but there you get a lot in return. For instance, the plateau is heavier in 12mm acrylic and weighs over 1050 grams. A silicone strap ensures the transmission of the energy coming from the AC synchronous motor. The GD2 features two HD Fiber bases for even better cushioning. Furthermore, the suspension of the engine operates at pedestal number 1 and that of the carbon tone arm at pedestal number 2. It is slightly higher on the legs with dimensions of 450 x 365 x 130mm and weighs 7.2 kilos. Besides the dust cover, you also get an extra counterweight for the tonearm. An element must be purchased by itself. Because that is a too personal issue in this price range.
The rigid base as in model GD1 is doubled in model GD2. Two layers of MDF HD of different thickness are decoupled from each other by a layer of insulating and resonance-absorbing material. The result is an even more efficient decoupling of the engine on layer 1 (large source of self-generated vibration) of the arm and turntable at layer 2. The constructive material is the same: compressed wood pulp and synthetic resins, known as MDF HD.
The beating heart of the turntable is a compact 24 Volt AC synchronous motor with extreme concourse. An AC motor is impervious to voltage variations in the mains; the concourse is guaranteed by the mains frequency. The high torque and rotational speed of 500 rpm of this engine actively contributes to a correct and stable speed of the turntable.
With a turntable, the largest internal source of contact noises and resonances is the engine. The engine should be insulated as far as possible from all other parts of the turntable. The engine insulation in the New Horizon turntables is made possible by a unique mechanical suspension system. By means of steel precision springs, calibrated to the 33 floating weight of the engine and the drive, the transfer of vibrations to the plinth is efficiently blocked.
The drive through the pulley on the turntable is provided by a round silicone rubber string. A silicone string is longer rigid (no stretches) and has a longer life span.
All models come with a clear acrylic dust cover. The corners are bent by heat. The hood is seamless and not glued. The hood is not hinged.
New Horizon turntables distinguish themselves by the application of reverse bearings. A 3-piece bearing of two aluminum chassis parts and a stainless steel ball guarantees a perfect and quiet rotation. A ceramic ball is available as an option.
Model GD2 comes with a straight 8.6 “arm with carbon arm-tube. Carbon is very light. The arm is equipped with adjustable azimuth and adjustable cross-force compensation. An additional counterweight is supplied which allows the application of many models MM or MC elements.
Model GD2 comes with a laser cut clear acrylic turntable of 12 mm high (1100 grams). The turntable is calibrated after cutting on a precision lathe. All models feature gold-plated RCA connectors and a separate earth connector.
